It recently emerged that Telkom is likely to upgrade its 4 Mbps ADSL subscribers to 10 Mbps instead of the 8 Mbps the company previously trialed.

Telkom has already started upgrading their backend systems to reflect the new ‘10240’ speeds despite the fact that the service is not commercially available yet.

In a recent internal email Telkom said that despite the fact that they have “not yet officially launched the new ‘Fastest’ ADSL product as a 10Meg service” they have already enabled their operational software to handle this service “once the announcement has been made.”

Telkom is currently still trialing the new 10 Mbps service to test the throughput and stability of the upgrades. Telkom said that this extended testing period is needed “to ensure that we are able to provide this service to an acceptable standard to our customers”.
